In order to obtain British citizenship, one must usually have a work visa and live in the UK for at minimum 5 years. You may need to prove your English proficiency through UK Visas and Immigration approved tests for your citizenship application. You may also need to prove your English proficiency in order to to apply for work and a work visa. IELTS is the only one approved for those residing outside the UK.
